Merrie taught secondary English for over 16 years, specialising in Learning and Teaching, and Working with the Gifted and Talented. In 2008 the quality of her work was recognised by the DfE, with Advanced Skills Teacher status (AST). As part of her brief to raise standards in schools, her special project was Differentiation in the Mixed-Ability Classroom. Following that, she was a Deputy Head of Faculty (KS4; Learning and Teaching) at an outstanding school.
Merrie is currently self-employed and lives in London, where she teaches creative writing classes and facilitates workshops. She has just completed her debut novel, with the support of a Arts Council Award. A member of NAWE, she is also available for creative writing commissions, and Learning and Teaching consultancy and training.
Subject History
She has taught, at Key Stages 3, 4 and A Level, English Language, English Literature, and Media Studies; and additionally at A level, English Language & Literature (combined).
